Marisa Polin’s artistic repertoire spans steel structures, fabric sculptures, and vinyl drawings, skilfully navigating the delicate interplay of opposing forces. Her work achieves a harmonious balance, teetering on the brink of eruption. Each piece plays with dichotomies: volume versus surface, instant versus eternity, strength versus fragility.
Polin’s creations go beyond conventional limits, transforming into portals that articulate the intangibility of nature, embodying the fluidity of water and the delicate flutter of butterfly wings. Through deconstruction, she reveals the essence of real objects in abstract forms. Stepping beyond the confines of the studio, Polin intervenes in parks, forests, and streets, allowing her works to naturally fade over time.
Rooted in a vibrant, geometric, and minimalist language, her art delves into themes of memories, home, borders, community, and time. This exploration invites viewers to emotionally connect with their surroundings. Originally from Mexico City and now based in London, Polin’s international experiences, shaped by her travels, fuel her political activism and exploration of the Latin-American language.
A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Polin’s diverse vision and adept use of mixed techniques shine through in exhibitions at prestigious global venues, including the Venice Biennale, Camden Arts Center, Museo del Chopo Mexico, Somers Gallery London, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo of Oaxaca, Kata Odata Bali, and Universiteit van Antwerpen.
